2 Ways to Style: The Satin Dress

There are some pieces we have in our close that are able to transition from day to night so seamlessly that it’s sort of a crime to not wear it to its max potential. Enter in this satin number from Nasty Gal. Y’all…this dress…is everything AND SOME! I mean, I get excited over clothes, but the amount of “yesssssss hunnay” I was telling myself after getting my order in the mail was unparalled. This is the type of dress that you walk around in and you know that not one single human on this earth can tell you a damn thing. This is the type of dress you wear on the 4th or 5th date once you know that you’re feeling the guy and it’s like “BAM! You thought that was my final form, think again!”. The type of dress that will have people turning heads (as they were when I was shooting these looks). I wanted to share 2 ways to style the satin dress in today’s post.

I mean, I can continue, but, y’all get the point. So, I saw this dress online during Nasty Gal’s holiday sale and snatched it up sooooo quick. Fun Fact: the brand is now owned by Boohoo. And Boohoo consistently has sales, which means that Nasty Gal has followed suit and having AMAZING sales basically every single week. The best part, this dress is still in stock. Run, don’t walk, to your computer right now, this instant, and #TreatYourself2018. I won’t be mad if you leave this post just for that. I want you to do that. I call it #SelfCare. For the casual route, I knew a sleek black turtleneck would instantly turn this dress into something a bit more season appropriate. The top itself is thin which is perfect for layering. I slipped on my oh so favorite Thigh High Boots (perfect for dresses that have a dramatic thigh split). The look needed a coat to be fully complete and I have had this lightweight trench for the longest and can never seem to give it up (it’s from a brand that was recently under some heat for it’s racially insensitive clothing worn by a young black boy…don’t kill me!). So if you’re headed to a more fancy brunch or maybe a day-date, this look is going to be perfect for you.

Now let’s say you need to STUNT on every single human being that ever existed, then this look is for you. A bit more risque. But that’s 2018 is all about stepping out of your comfort zone and slaying the day away. This is the 3rd time I’m wearing this oversized satin blazer on the blog and to be completely honest, it may not be my last (yasssss to versatile pieces). But as soon as the dress arrived, I knew that this blazer would be the PERFECT addition to this look. Firstly, satin on satin is just BOMB. And secondly, emerald green and rust orange are a match made in color heaven. I kept the rest of the look simple with a pair of hoop earrings (from your local beauty supply), and a pair of heels that my friend gave to me (hello hand-me-downs!).

I’m going to be doing more “2 Ways to Style” this year. I think their fun and a great way to show how one item can be transformed.

Until next time…
