Satin Skirt Transition Piece + Tips on Shopping Smarter

A transition piece is a piece of clothing that has ability to go through more than one season, styled in different ways. There a number of different transition pieces out there, but as of late, I’ve found that the satin skirt is one of the most versatile pieces of clothing you can own. If you don’t have one, I would definitely recommend getting one. You won’t be disappointed!

You’ve all seen this skirt here and this time I wanted to style it another two ways. I’ve mentioned here how I usually go from work to blogging events, and while I sometimes have the ability to come home and change my look, that’s not always the case. And so, I’m usually opting for something that can let me go from Account Manager to Blogger without hella effort.

Base Outfit: Who What Wear Rust Satin Skirt (similar) | Missguided One Shoulder Top (similar)

FOR WORK

Checkered Blazer (similar) | Perspex Mules (early release!) | Gold Clasp Waistbelt | Round Purse

Because this top is one shoulder, it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to wear it to work as is. But slap on a blazer on top, and boom! I added a medium sized belt around the waist to add some dimension and kept the shoes simple with these black & clear mules.

You could also go with a chunky boot if the weather is a bit colder. These clear hoops are also a great way to add some character without over-doing it.

FOR SLAY

I can admit that I like to do the most. So when it comes to dressing up for events, I really like to put my best foot forward. This combo is something that is right up my comfort zone as far as flowy and structured pieces go. The one shoulder mock neck line is everything!

Sugarfix Earrings (sold out) | Rattan Bag (similar) | Wide Waistbelt (similar) | Leopard Print Mules

These leopard print mules really tie the look together and add a bit of funk to this solid palette. I also threw on some multicolored earrings, as they had hints of orange in them, and I really am all about the color this year!

Tips on Shopping Smarter

  • Can you come up with at least 3-4 outfits with that piece you’re looking at? If no, then leave it. Unless it’s for a super special occasion like a birthday or wedding, limit your purchase of pieces that you could only wear in one way.
  • Build up a capsule collection. These are the basics of an everyday outfit. Having these items in your arsenal will help you when you feel like you have “nothing to wear”. 2-3 types of jeans, a white top of some sort, some flats or low heels (mules are my fave), and a good blazer and oversized neutral coat.
  • Don’t feel any type of way about shopping in the sale section. Look, the sale section in most of these high fashion stores like Zara or Mango is actually, bomb. So instead of going straight to the newest drop, take a browse at what the sale selection is like.
  • Assess if you actually want something, or if it’s just impulse. I sometimes have a tendency to just buy things because I think it’s “soooo cute!” without really assessing if I need something like that in my closet. Sure, there are some things that we just “need”, but we don’t “need” everything.

Until next time…
