Hey y’all and happy new week! Can you believe that we are basically at the end of the year. So, Happy New Year to you all! But seriously, this year has flown by so much and its crazy to think that in just 2 months, we’ll be starting all over again. I’ve spent less time focusing on making sure I accomplish all my goals for 2018 by December, and instead, I’m more so focused on making sure that I make these last few weeks of the year count. Especially with blogging, after traveling to NYC for a hot second last week, I left with all this inspiration and feel excited for the content I’m about to share with you for my favorite time of the year!
But with that said, my favorite time of the year also means that the temperatures start to drop (not as dramatic in LA as compared to other parts of the US and the world, but nonetheless), and I wanted to share a trend that has taken over this season:
I had been eyeing a couple before I decided to purchase this longline one from Forever 21 before my trip to the East. And I have to say that this coat is pretty versatile! Although I only wore it with two outfits so far, I can see myself pairing it with a bunch of different looks. I bought a size L on purpose, mainly because I wanted enough room to be able to layer a sweater underneath without feeling like my arm would suffocate. But if you want a more snug fit, I would go with a M (I am 5’8″ and 163 lbs for reference). Keep reading for the different styles of teddy coats I’ve been eyeing this season, ranging from $50-$200!
The longline coat is one that traditionally hits right around the knee or lower. A bulkier longline coat is perfect if you live in really cold areas and need that extra warmth around your bottom half. Or even if you don’t, it can add nice dimension to an outfit.
A moto jacket is basically a jacket that resembles that of a jacket that MOTOrcyclists wear. I may or may not have recently discovered that fact. But this style is just right for those that live in less extreme weather conditions, like LA, and can compliment a jean and tee look perfectly.
These jackets tend to be a bit more puffier and rounded out, with buttoned cuffs and a traditional collar. This style can work in most fall weather conditions and are perfect for layering a chunky turtleneck underneath.
I classify a blazer jacket as one that has lapels that you would see on a blazer and hits right around the waist area. This style is perfect to throw on when you’re in a rush and need a coat to tag along for the ride, but also work nicely with a jean look.
Now, on to my outfit that I wore for my short stay in NYC. I kept it kind of simple and only packed this coat because I knew I didn’t want to lug around any additional luggage if I didn’t have to. For the first day, I paired the coat with an all black look. Both the ribbed turtleneck sweater and corduroy jeans are from Zara. I spotted the pants online at first and loved the way the looked, so when I tried it on in store and they fit perfectly, I was so happy! I rounded out the look with faux croc mules are from Who What Wear and finally a pop of color with this red beret from Amazon.
Note: Zara’s pant sizing is very interesting. I have thicker thighs, so I had to size up to a 10 for the pants to comfortably fit around them. But around my waist, the pants are a bit loose so I’m going to have to take them in (for reference, I am normally around a size 8 in pants).
For my second outfit, I had checked the weather before my trip and knew it was going to be colder than usual, so I wanted to make sure I was as warm as possible. I decided on this longline sweater I picked up from H&M last year (similar and similar), because it’s super cozy without it being too heavy. I paired it with denim from James Jeans and brown heeled boots from Miss Lola.
Until next time…
