Chic Student Desk

desk As you all may know by now, I am currently in grad school finishing my last year of my MBA program. Being in school full time after working full time is a major ADJUSTMENT. Primarily because there is a huge lifestyle change. I’m talking finances, time, energy, diet; they all tend to take a hit once you begin a grad program. BUT LET ME TELL YOU, I have had to change the way I do things. Such as decorating my apartment/room. I love interior decorating and putting things together. Today’s post is all about my desk and desk decor and how I achieved this aesthetic on a student budget I shopped at Ross, TJ Maxx, Target, and Marshalls for the desk decor. IMG_4007 IMG_3941 desk decorationsIMG_3952-1IMG_3948-1Obvi, every student needs some sort of desk (I didn’t have one last year and I regretted it). This year I took it upon myself to find one that was within my budget and still could accomplish what I needed it to do: a desk/area to place small things. I found this one at Walmart for $40. It is DIY but the instructions were very straightforward. Now for the decor! The theme of my room is white with accents of silver and gold so all the accessories I found fall in that category. desk decorationsIMG_4045IMG_3964IMG_3987IMG_3961IMG_3957IMG_3967IMG_4026

DIY Desk Chair

I found the chair in an open area in my complex where residents can leave furniture they don’t want anymore. It was originally black railing with a tan cushion. I went to Home Depot and purchased 2 cans of white matte spray paint. The seat “cushion” is actually a bath mat from Marshall’s. With a screw driver and a hot glue gun, I adhered the mat to the tan cushion and voila, a chair that matches my room/desk aesthetic!

Marshalls

  • 3D monogrammed letter “S”
  • Textured glass jewelry bowl (similar)
  • Scentless candles
  • “With God All Things are Possible” Notepad

TJ Maxx

Ross

  • 8″ x 10″ Picture frame (similar)

Target

The mirror (similar) was a gift from a supervisor at my job. She was getting rid of some things and I immediately took the mirror. I knew it would be a cute little vintage touch to the desk.

Although you’re in college, it doesn’t mean you have to skimp on finding cute things for your room/dorm. Know the budget you are working with and start searching! Whether it be online or in store, you are bound to find something.
