This post is long overdue. Finally showing you all how I DIY’d these Faux Fur Leather Mules. The inspiration is the Gucci pair that are so beautiful (but that price tag is not). These have been my go to flats as of late. Literally slip on and go. And they pretty much go with any outfit.
Making these were quite easy. So without further adieu…here’s a step by step tutorial!
What you’re going to need is:
Faux Leather Mules
I bought this pair (similar) from Lulu’s. I would suggest going a size up with these type of shoes since they are closed toe and open back.
I used fur from a hoodie that I found at the thrift store (telling y’all, don’t sleep on the thrift!)
These are from Michael’s crafts store. They were the perfect size. I would recommend getting the ones with a flat side. Makes it easier to glue on.
Step 1
Cut the faux fur from the edge of the hood. Once you have removed the fur, you’re going to cut that piece in half. The two halves will be used for the lining of our shoe.
Step 2
Once you have the two halves separated, you’re going to take one of the fur halves and glue the opening shut (as shown below). If you’re using fur from a craft store, you can probably skip this step.
Step 3
Next you’re going to position the fur onto the outer rim of the shoe. This part is pretty important. You want to position the fur in a way that will allow the fur to peek through the part of the shoe where my left hand is positioned, but not too much to the point where it looks like the fur isn’t securely attached. Additionally, you may have some extra fur that you won’t need once you reach the other end of the shoe. So just snip those parts away.
Once you have mapped out the length of the fur you need, take your glue gun and squeeze the glue directly onto the shoe…not the fur, the shoe. This will ensure maximum adhesion and will save you the trouble of getting glue everywhere.
Step 4
Once you have glued the fur onto the shoe, allow it to dry for about 5 mins. Then you will proceed the placing the gems on the tongue of the shoe. It was a bit hard for me to get a pic of me gluing each gem on. But you are going to take each gem and squeeze the hot glue on it, and then proceed to glue it on the shoe. Doing it the other way around will cause a big mess and the glue dries quite quickly. Allow the gems to dry for another 20 minutes.
