I know…we think that black is the color that we should all stay away from during the summer. But what if I told you there’s a way to rock the classic color without sweating bullets??? Below are my takes on how to wear black in the summer without sacrificing comfort.
I know you’re probably thinking that the color black doesn’t necessarily scream SUMMER TIME! But an off the shoulder mini dress does! And this one from Ali & Jay is so good.
Tip 1: Off the shoulder anything automatically puts you in a summer mood and I love how flirty the sleeves are on this number.
Tip 2: The key to wearing black is to go with something that’s more on the sheer side. That way, you can ensure that air is passing through the fabric instead of sticking on to it.The length of this dress is perfect for my 5’8″ self. I paired the look with a flirty espadrille in black with a gold platform and a black crossbody bag with gold details (because who says matchy matchy is out of style).
Tip 3: Don’t wear anything that’s tight fitting all around. That’ll only make you uncomfortable and extremely hot.

My favorite part of this next look is the top, obviously. I received this top (in a set) from Ali & Jay a while ago and always loved the construction of it. Anything that I can tie up is a win for me! It accentuates my mid section perfectly and vertical stripes are flattering on any shape. Tip 4: If you’re going to go with a black top, crop it up. Cropping immediately gives your look a summer boost and you get a cool breeze on your tummy.
Tip 5: Something with a lower v-neck also aids in keeping you cooler throughout the day.

I’ve worn both of these outfits in very hot weather and survived. So you have my word. Rework your black pieces as you see fit!
Until next time…
