I think it’s safe to say that florals aren’t necessarily subject to just Spring/Summer anymore. This statement print can definitely be reworked year round without having to always buy completely new pieces. So today, I’m sharing a complete guide on how to wear florals this fall!
1) GO MUTED: For this season, opt for pieces with colors that are a bit more muted. Rather than getting a floral print that has a white base with a lot of pinks and purples, go for one that has a darker base (like black, gray, taupe), with brown and orange tones. I picked up this skirt from Zara a few weeks back and was immediately drawn to the mixture of colors. Although the floral print is heavy, you can see that the base of the skirt is indeed black.

2) PAIR WITH COZY ELEMENTS: To tame down the spring-ness of a floral piece, I lean towards pairing it with pieces that look warm and cozy. Like a sweater, or a turtleneck. For this look, I paired it with this feathered mesh top that I also snagged from Zara. Someone described this as a perfect piece for an LA fall and I couldn’t agree more! The mesh makes it breathable enough, while the feathers provide just a hint of warmth, and also just makes the whole look a bit more cozy. This corduroy shoes also scream “Fall” and are the perfect color to complement the rust colored elements in the skirt.
3) WEAR IT AS OUTERWEAR: Wearing florals on a jacket is a great way to get the best of worlds. If you’re living in a colder climate, you might like this shearling lined jacket with floral embroidery. If you’re on the West Coast, you may not need something that thick and can get away with a dark floral blazer.
4) OPT FOR MIDI VS. MINI: If you’re wearing a dress, a floral midi dress is a perfect way to transition the print to Fall. A mini dress gives a very spring/summer feel, but if you do choose to wear it, pair it with booties and either a leather or denim jacket. And those are my 4 Tips on how to wear florals this fall! I’m definitely already eyeing some other fall friendly floral pieces like this dress and this top.
Until next time…
