Hey peeps! I am finally back with another blog post. I know, sort of a long time no see. Thing is, I’m not mad at it. I briefly mentioned it in an Instagram post, but I am no longer tying myself to semi-unrealistic expectations. I am learning that it’s ok to pivot. For example, I thought that in the new year, I would be posting 5 times a week. Quite the ambitious little slugger I was in December 2017. I didn’t think about how my job, and just my life in general would factor into meeting that expectation. Before I knew it, I felt unaccomplished and that I had failed myself.
So after some mini reflecting (more like random epiphanies throughout this past month), I just realized that I need to take it easy. Post when I feel motivated to post. Share what I feel led to share. And leave it at that. There’s no cookie cutter way to accomplish anything in this life and time and time again, I am reminded of that.
With that said, I am aiming to be even more intentional about what I share here and one of those intentions is highlighting the work of others. My friend Uchechi Chambers (neé Emenogu) is the founder/creative director behind the brand, Menogu Designs. It’s always great when you see your friends doing what they love to do. The passion that radiates into their work can be recognized from a mile away and honestly motivates those around them to go after their passions, with passion. I’ve featured her accessories on the blog before, but this time I wanted to take a moment to show some major love in honor of Women’s History Month.
As a black woman, we are probably the most marginalized group in America. We tend to be looked over for many opportunities, many believe that we are “difficult” or “divas”, and we are the least protected. Yet, we constantly put ourselves on the line and show up when we need to, even when it’s not our fight (re: Senate election in Alabama). We go hard for the equality that we longingly hope that we can also receive ourselves.
Everyday, we show up and show out and Menogu Designs is a brand that does just that. It highlights the West African culture in such a beautiful way through clothing pieces. Uchechi puts her all into the brand, from the concept, to the design, and overlooking the creation of all the items. In today’s mass market, that’s something that is treasured. I chose this particular piece because a longline vest is so versatile and can be paired with a number of outfits. For this look, I chose to wear it a bit more casual, choosing these culottes, and a white graphic tee. Red seemed like the best color option to make the pattern of the vest pop as well.
I love this look and hope that you all like it too! This vest does come in a different style as well if you’re looking for more color.
Until next time…

Thank you for this post! Sometimes we forget to let life happen and not force ourselves to unrealistic goals. You’re amazing and when you do post, it’s always a gem!
