Disclaimer: I am not a dermatologist or esthetician. I consider myself a skincare enthusiast and enjoy sharing my personal recommendations. But always consult with a professional if you have more in depth concerns/questions.
Not all skincare products are made equally, but there are some that are honestly not always worth the price tag, so I’m breaking down where you should invest in your skincare, and what products you can go the cheaper route with.
Facial Wash: Here’s the thing, you’re washing it off. It’s not sitting on your face, it’s not absorbing, it is simply just rinsing off. If you find one that’s good for you and it’s on the cheaper scale, don’t feel the need to splurge on a higher end one if you are unable to (of course, if you want, then by all means!).
Facial Oil: This is usually the final step of a nighttime skincare routine, and its main (but not only) use is to help lock in all the goodies you applied to your skin earlier. So while a higher end facial oil does have some skin benefits, I think this is one of the products that if you went with a cheaper option, it would not be detrimental to your routine.
Face Masks: Because face masks are used sparingly throughout the week, I definitely would say it’s not a necessity to splurge on this. Most of the facial masks I have used have been drugstore and when I have used higher end ones, I still get the same feel and end result.
Toner: I personally think that toners are the basis for a strong skincare routine, and I can fully attest that when I invested in more higher quality toners, my skin most definitely noticed a difference. While drugstore toners can be effective, there’s a number of brands that include witch hazel as a primary ingredient. Now, witch hazel isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s not something you want to use on your face everyday, as it can be drying. I would say take the time to research different toners and see which higher quality ones may work best for you.
Serum: Serums are potent liquids that help to target problem areas in your skin. From experience, when I have used a higher quality serum, I have noticed a significant difference in my skin vs. using a cheaper product. One of my holy grails, Farmacy Honeymoon Glow, is a higher end product but it’s one that I have been using for the last 2.5 years, consistently. Although higher quality serums can be pricey, they are worth it in the end.
Exfoliant: Exfoliants either work under the skin (liquid) or at the very top of the skin layer (scrub). But either way, it’s a product I recommend going for the higher end option because of the effectiveness and the results.
Eye Cream: The eyes are very sensitive areas of the face so going with an option that provides more benefits (and can therefore be more pricey) would be the best way to go. The good news is that eye creams also last a long time because a little goes such a long way. So you’ll get your bang for your buck.
Moisturizer: Now, this one’s a little tricky because I do believe there are some GREAT drugstore and cheaper moisturizers out there that I used to use when I first started taking skincare more seriously. BUT, I can also attest that when I have used more higher end moisturizers, my skin can feel the difference. And there are a plethora of different moisturizers out there that each have different tasks. So this one is up to you if you’re willing to take a stab at a more pricier option.
Thanks so much for reaching and I hope that you find this list of where you should invest your skincare helpful!
Until next time…
