Tis the season to be glowy, fa la la la la la la la la! Since the weather is cooling down on us, some places quicker than others, I wanted to share tips on transitioning your skincare for winter.
It’s always recommended to go in with your heavier skincare products at night (such as retinols, vitamin c serums, heavy masks, etc.). The term, “I come alive in the nighttime” is real when it comes to your night routine.
One tip is to switch out your serums for options that target any issues that come with the cold weather, like dullness and excessive dryness. This is a great way to ensure that your skin concerns are properly met without wasting product that may not be needed for this season.
Another tip is to incorporate a thicker moisturizer every night (or every other night). These are the moisturizers that feel more like a whipped butter. This will ensure that as you sleep your skin doesn’t get dehydrated. You can also layer on different moisturizers for the ultimate impact.
But there are just some days where my skin CRAVES that added boost of moisture. Which is where an overnight mask comes in (and my final tip!). The benefits of an overnight mask include working as both a barrier and a sealant. Essentially, it ensures that whatever you put on it before (like a serum or moisturizer), remains sealed, while also providing additional added benefits.
I’ve been using the Olay Overnight Gel Mask 1-2x a week, and it’s pretty safe to say that this is now fully integrated into my winter skincare routine! What I do to prep before the mask is cleanse, tone, apply a serum, and then apply the mask. These steps ensure that while my skin is absorbing all the good ingredients, it’s not bogged down by incorporating too many. The mask comes in three formulas:
My current fave is the hydrating mask, primarily because I deal with uneven skin tone (including hyper-pigmentation), so anything that I can add to my routine to aid in this, is a win for me. After using, I wake up to baby soft skin. It also has a nice scent that makes it bearable to sniff as I sleep.
Those are my 3 tips on transitioning your skincare for winter! I hope you found this post helpful and that you’re now a bit more versed in the world of overnight masks. Which one do you see yourself using??
Until next time..
