Now that the rain and cold have officially hit LA (with a bit of force I must say), the coats are back in full swing. This trench coat has been a ride or die in my closet for some time now. I only pull it out every so often but I can’t let it go just yet.
The holidays for a lot of people can be dreadful. This year for me, it’s the fact that my mom won’t be here to celebrate. She loved, and I mean LOVED the Christmas season. Imagining doing all the festivities without her is a hard emotional pill to swallow. So this year I am keeping it lowkey. I don’t have exact plans as of yet (procrastination Seyi, back at it again), but it’ll be something that’ll allow my sister and I to just try to get through these next few weeks without going crazy.
To that point, the holidays can really make people feel less than.
“What do you mean by ‘less than’ Seyi?”
There’s a tendency to look over at your neighbor and see how wonderful their life is going, or how great their year has went. You start to second guess and question what the heck you were doing for the past 12 months. Unknowingly, you start to feel this dread come over you and all of a sudden you don’t give 2 ____ about Christmas carols or eggnog. All you want to do is curl up in your bed and sleep through to the New Year.
Now while your feelings are valid, you also want to make sure that you’re not getting stuck in the quicksand known as D E S P A I R. A couple of tips to help you keep a level head for this season:

“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.” Psalms 42:11
